I totally agree! Parents need to be more active in childrens lives... But with a 9 to 5 job mortgages and everything else going on can we really be expected to monitor every single action our children do? I think not... Take bebo for example, You go on (a passworded account) can place pictures write comments bla bla bla but can you really be sure who your talking to? Its amazing the niavety of some children and adults when it comes to sites like this. People think well there talking to the same age group, Its the internet nothing can go wrong. But that is totally wrong; The ammount of spam and sexually orienteered mail messages that goes around that site is unbelievable. How can we protect our children from this sort of thing? Simple... Delete all these sort of sites or put age restrictions on where you must prove your age... And by this i don't mean something saying "Please put in your DOB" because cmon? Who isnt going to lie to gain access to the all new social networking site. So theres my views abolish the sites until this sort of thing can be protected or don't give your child internet access. Don't get me wrong the blame is to lie with the parents too... You can't expect to let your children roam the internet and when they find certain sites instinctly know what to do. They must be educated and shown what to avoid and how to avoid it. The combination of these two will help a great deal but unfortunately i don't think we are ever going to find a cure for such a thing.

Hi Bill, we received your comments and as you can see, they are approved.
We agree with your point of view: the parents are the ones responsable about their children education and growth - it is knowed, is reality.
But there are aspects of modern life which aren`t familiar with all adults; things that needs to be said and pointed, even if for some of us it might seem redundant. We talk about them and try, as parents, to do our best for our childrens good.

Interesting how none of the comments are being passed through. Perhaps the writer is aware of the hypocrisy inherent in this subject.

The responsibility to keep our children away from things they're not yet wise enough to process intellectually has ALWAYS been on the parents. It always infuriates me when someone talks about some business or website or organization "not doing enough to protect our children from.." . Obviously, nobody should be marketing beer in a middle school, or showing porn vids at a Toys R Us, but some of the things that are being DEMANDED of entities are simply ridiculous. Get involved in your child's life. Now. Establish that you're the boss. Now. Teach your children right from wrong from the beginning, enough of this "he's just expressing himself" bullcrap. Screaming in a restaurant and hitting your mother is not "expressing" that's anti-social behavior. (I see this daily) Teach the idea that actions have consequences, both good and bad. Reward good behavior. Punish bad behavior. Monitor their activities. When they get old enough that they're doing things in places you CANNOT monitor them, if you did it right, they'll have developed high personal standards, and they poor choices they make will be minimized.
